🐾 Keep Your Pet Healthy with Core Vaccinations
Protect your pet from serious, potentially life-threatening illnesses such as canine distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, parainfluenza, and feline respiratory viruses. At Bellerose Animal Hospital, we recommend the following vaccinations as part of your pet’s preventive care plan:
Vaccinations for Dogs 🐶
Rabies
Required by New York State law. First given at 16 weeks, with a booster at 1 year, then every 3 years thereafter.
DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza)
Puppies begin this series early, with boosters every 3–4 weeks until 16 weeks of age. For large breeds, your veterinarian may advise an additional dose.
Leptospirosis
First dose typically given after 8 weeks of age, with a booster 3–4 weeks later.
Lyme Disease
Vaccination is recommended for dogs at higher risk of exposure. Your veterinarian will discuss your dog’s lifestyle and risk factors.
Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
Puppies are vaccinated after 8 weeks of age, followed by a booster 4 weeks later. High-risk dogs (e.g., boarding, grooming, or daycare) should receive boosters every 6 months.
Canine Influenza
An emerging but serious illness. Puppies receive their first dose after 8 weeks, with a booster 2–3 weeks later, then annually.
Vaccinations for Cats 🐱
Rabies
Required by state law. Given at 16 weeks, with annual boosters.
FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia)
Initial vaccination starts at 8 weeks of age, with boosters every 3–4 weeks until 16 weeks. A booster is given 1 year later, then every 3 years.
FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus)
Recommended based on lifestyle and exposure risk. Your veterinarian will evaluate your cat’s individual needs and discuss whether this vaccine is appropriate.
